Yesterday, all the children in school had a visit from Mr Singh from the Sikh Education Service. The day began with assemblies first for our youngest children in Nursery, Foundation Stage 2 and Year 1 and then for our children in Years 2, 4 and 6. Later in the morning, the children in Year 3 worked with Mr Singh and then in the afternoon it was the turn of Year 5. The children were extremely keen and proud to share their own knowledge with Mr Singh. In return, he shared his knowledge and his Sikh beliefs. He introduced the 5 Ks to the children, taught them how to tie a turban and also how to count to ten in Gurmukhi! Can your child tell you any of the 5 Ks? Have a look at the fabulous photos to find out more.
Just look at the incredible entries to the Decorated Egg Competition that we held in school yesterday. Mrs James, one of our School Governors, thoroughly enjoyed judging them all but she found it very tricky due to the amazing effort with ALL entries. Well done to every person that entered the competition - you should be very proud of yourself. Earlier this week, Year Four and Year Six had a very informative visit from Lekchog from the Kadampa Meditation Centre. The children learnt how to meditate using the correct position, the purpose of a shrine and the offerings that are made to Buddha. They shared their knowledge with Lekchog and even acted out the life story of Prince Siddhartha. Have a look at some photos of the fabulous learning that look place.
Last week, it was World Book Day and Wellgate celebrated the day in style. Throughout the day, children had fun dressing as their favourite book characters (or word) , showed off their costumes in assemblies and completed exciting learning about different books and had some fantastic book talk! Throughout the day, classes were treated to visitors coming to read to them. Mrs James (our fantastic governor) read a poetry tasting menu to Year 4. Our brilliant Y5/6 reading ambassadors shared stories with KS1. Plus all across school, children enjoyed virtual author visits from best selling authors including Lisa Thompson, Helen Rutter, George Webster and even Julia Donaldson and Axel Scheffler!
Earlier this term, children from Year 6 to reception were put through their paces by Paralympic Tennis player Antony Cotterill and Sportivator Shaun as part of our Sports For Schools Morning. The children had an amazing time completing their fitness circuits before listening to the inspirational story behind Antony's journey to becoming a Paralympian. We would like to say thankyou for the support and generosity shown throughout the whole school community in raising an amazing £3189.73 for us to purchase new equipment following consultation with the School Council. Please take a look at the some of the action photos below from each year group and thank you once again. Year 6Year 5Year 4Year 3Year 2 Year 1FS2Both Year 3 and Year 5 enjoyed their Hinduism Workshop last week. First, they listened to some stories from the religion and were able to share the knowledge that they already had from their own R.E lessons.
Then, they found out more about the main Hindu deities and their wives. After, they talked about Ganesh and learned a dance to help them remember important facts about him. The next bit was super fun! They learnt how to do a stick dance. They practised with their hands first and then tried it with the real sticks! They were really good at remembering the steps. Then, it was time to explore! They looked at some of the toys and dolls which represent the key figures from Hinduism. They also had chance to dress up in some of the saris and head dresses. They even had chance to wear bindi to make their outfits look more special. At the end of the session, they were able to buy their own diva lamp. Each one was unique and beautifully made. Have a look at some amazing photos from the day. Today was the last day of term for 2022. At Wellgate we celebrated with a fun-filled Christmas Assembly. This was filled with children singing carols, festive dancing and even some festive musical performances from our talented Year 6 students. During the assembly, we also said a fond farewell to Mrs Patterson, one of our talented Teaching Assistants. Mrs Patterson has been part of the Wellgate family for the past 4 years and thoroughly enjoyed her role. We would like to take this opportunity to thank her for all her time, efforts and dedication that she has given to the children and families over this time. We wish you well for your new adventures! Year 6 Musical TalentsGood bye and Good Luck to Mrs PattersonCongratulations to Miss Haigh, who is getting married over the Christmas Holidays. We hope you have a wonderful day and look forward to welcoming the new Mrs Larkin back to Wellgate next half term.
