Funding Sport Premium
The government is providing additional funding to improve provision of physical education (PE) and sport in primary schools. This funding – provided jointly by the Department for Education, Health and Culture, Media and Sport – is being allocated to primary school head teachers. It is ring-fenced and, therefore, can only be spent on provision of PE and sport in schools. Each school has been receiving £16,000 plus an extra £10 per pupil each year. It is for individual schools to decide how the PE and Sport funding is spent, since they are best placed to assess what additional provision should be made to enhance the provision for PE.
We recognise the contribution of PE to the health and well-being of the children. We believe that an innovative, varied PE curriculum and extra-curricular opportunities have a positive influence on the concentration, attitude and academic achievement of all our children. Our Primary School’s Funding enables us to continue to extend our provision for all our pupils.
Swimming and water safety
All schools must provide swimming instruction either in key stage 1 or key stage 2.
In particular, pupils should be taught to:
- swim competently, confidently and proficiently over a distance of at least 25 metres
- use a range of strokes effectively [for example, front crawl, backstroke and breaststroke]
- perform safe self-rescue in different water-based situations
