Exclusion Arrangments
At Wellgate Primary School we pride ourselves on being an inclusive school community. We work in close partnership with parents, pupils and other professionals to identify and meet the diverse needs of all our children.
We have high expectations of all our children. Our Positive Behaviour and Discipline Policy outlines our behaviour system within school and focuses on praising positive behaviour. This is to ensure that all children feel safe, secure and happy within school, enabling them to reach their full learning potential.
Unfortunately, from time to time, we may have to take the step of excluding a child and it is not a decision that is taken lightly. As a school, we follow the BMBC guidelines in relation to exclusion.
The Headteacher may exclude a child for actions which fall under one of more of the following areas:
If the decision is taken to exclude a child, the child’s Parent/Carer would be notified straight away and asked to collect the child from school immediately. The necessary paperwork would be completed and provided to the Parent/Carer. Work will be provided for the child to complete. A reintegration meeting would also be arranged for the date the child is to return. Copies of the exclusion paperwork will also be sent to the Chair of Governors and to Springwell Learning Community who manage the administration and paperwork on behalf of the local authority. The Headteacher will also inform the Trust CEO.
