Year 5 Brass Concert at the Metrodome – A Celebration of Sound!

On Wednesday 25th June, our brilliant Year 5 pupils took centre stage at the Metrodome to perform in their long-awaited brass concert – and what an incredible event it was!

Since September, the children have been taking part in weekly brass lessons, learning to play instruments such as the trumpet, trombone and baritone. Over the months, their confidence, technique and teamwork have grown tremendously – and it all came together in this fantastic final performance.

The concert was a true celebration of their musical journey. Performing in a professional venue like the Metrodome was a huge moment for the children, and they rose to the occasion beautifully. With toe-tapping tunes and well-rehearsed group pieces, the audience was treated to an afternoon full of energy, rhythm and joy.

We are incredibly proud of the dedication and enthusiasm every child has shown throughout the year. A special thank you goes to our wonderful brass teacher (Mr Smith) for inspiring and guiding the children every step of the way.

Finally, a massive thank you to all the parents and carers who came along to support. Your encouragement and applause meant the world to the children – and helped make the day truly memorable.

Well done, Year 5 – you were brass-tastic! 👏🎶

The Year 5 Christmas Party was an unforgettable event filled with joy, laughter, and plenty of festive cheer. Our students came together to celebrate the holiday season with an afternoon packed full of fun activities, delicious treats, and heartwarming moments.
The party kicked off with music filling the room. The children danced their hearts out, showcasing their best moves and spreading contagious energy. The highlight of the dancing session was a spirited round of musical statues, where students froze mid-dance to hilarious and creative poses.
Next up were the party games, and they didn’t disappoint! One of the favourites were “Sleepy Elf,” a game that had everyone giggling as players tried to “fall asleep” at just the right moment. Laughter echoed throughout the room as everyone got into the festive spirit, cheering each other on.
The fun continued at our festive photo booth, where students posed with friends using a range of holiday-themed props. Santa hats, reindeer antlers, and much more.
No party is complete without some delicious food, and this one was no exception. The children enjoyed a spread of party treats, including pizza and chicken nuggets. There were plenty of happy faces as they shared the food and chatted with their friends.
The Year 5 Christmas Party was a wonderful way to end the term on a high note. It brought everyone together to celebrate the season, and the smiles on the children’s faces were a true testament to the magic of Christmas. Here’s to a joyous holiday season and an exciting New Year ahead!

This term, our talented Year 5 students have been hard at work mastering their brass instruments under the expert guidance of Mr. Smith. Their dedication and perseverance culminated in a fantastic Brass Celebration that showcased their progress and passion for music.
The event began with the children performing a spirited rendition of “Jingle Bells,” filling the room with festive cheer. Their enthusiasm and teamwork set the perfect tone for the rest of the celebration.
Next, the audience was treated to beautiful performances of Christmas classics, including “Xmas Time,” “Good King Wenceslas,” and “Jolly Old Saint Nicholas.” Each piece demonstrated the students’ growing confidence and skill, as they played in harmony and captivated everyone with their music.
A highlight of the celebration was when the children came together to sing “We Wish You a Merry Christmas.” Their heartfelt performance brought smiles to all and reminded us of the joy and unity that the holiday season brings.
Mr. Smith’s dedication and guidance have been instrumental in the students’ journey, and their progress is a testament to his inspiring teaching. The children’s hard work and practice truly shone through during this memorable event.
The Year 5 Brass Celebration was a wonderful way to celebrate both the festive season and the students’ musical achievements. Bravo to all our budding musicians for a brilliant performance, and thank you to everyone who joined us to support them. We can’t wait to see what they accomplish next term!

Last week, the hardworking children of 5AH amazed their parents and carers with their class assembly. Even though they're still in their first term, they have completed an incredible amount of work and have learnt so much already!

The children shared learning from writing, DT and History as well as sharing some of their favourite moments from their residential trip to Kingswood. They also performed some excellent songs for everyone attending the assembly.

Take a look at some pictures from the class assembly below.

Earlier this year, year 5 took part in two first aid workshops to learn all about keeping safe and how to deal with injuries and accidents. The children thoroughly enjoyed the afternoon and learnt some very valuable lessons. Why don't you ask them what they can remember?

Please take a look at the pictures from the afternoon below - some of the children really got into character when playing injured.

World Book Day

Year 5 had a fantastic day celebrating our love of reading. To start the day, we enjoyed a football/book quiz, which was hosted by professional footballers and authors alike. We also took part in a virtual author talk to find out about the process of writing and illustrating a book - the children were even taught how to draw one of the main characters from his book 'InvestiGators'.

We also focused our learning on the picture book 'Flotsam', discussed our understanding of the story and thought about what we would have done if we were in the main character's position. Why not ask your children about the book and what they thought of the story?

We were also amazed by the effort everyone had put into their outfits and would like to thank parents and carers for their creativity! Please take a look at some pictures below of Year 5's World Book Day.

Both Year 5 classes had excellent days completing their MasterChef projects. They had to work as a team and follow instructions to ensure they produced a meal everyone could enjoy. The children amazed the staff in Year 5 with their patience and cooking ability, they even managed to teach Mr Hirst, who has only stepped into a kitchen once before, a few cooking techniques.

We would also like to thank all of the adults, who were able to attend and taste the children's food. Please take a look at the pictures below of some of the children and their food.

During the Autumn Term, the children in Year 5 have completed research into pneumatic toys, conducted market research, designed and made their own pneumatic toys in small groups. The children used their research with the Year 2's to design and make a product that would be suitable for a child in a Year 2.

Take a look at some pictures of the children making their toys and their final products.
