This week, Year 2 enjoyed writing their own set of instructions about how to create a Jack-O-Lantern. They started by identifying verbs before using their knowledge of this to instruct each other to carve a pumpkin. The children loved this!

Today, Year Two have had a wonderful day learning more facts about The Great Fire of London from Sir William Petty. Children came dressed in period dress and they looked fantastic! The day began learning about London in the past. Sir William told the children about London, The River Thames and the reason why people had fires in the past. They found out about storm lanterns and how they kept the wind out. Some children even tested this by blowing on the lantern. Can you guess what happened? In the workshop with Sir William, the children learnt about the houses and why they set on fire. They even completed an experiment to show how easily the houses set on fire. Some children were houses, some children were warehouses and others were churches. Another exciting part of the workshop included the children showing how to pass the buckets of water from The River Thames. Ask your child about the material the buckets were made from. Did you know that when the fire was burning, people escaped with their furniture? They used the boats on the Thames to help to move it. We are sure the children have had an amazing day and enjoyed their workshops with Sir William. What a fun filled day they had!
Questions you could ask your child: When did the fire start? Where did the fire start? What did Samuel Pepys bury in his garden? Why did only six people die in the fire? Year Two had a wonderful trip to Bridlington on Monday. They visited the RNLI Lifeboat Station where they learned all about water safety and the history of the RNLI. They were able to use their knowledge of Grace Darling and her rescue mission to answer many questions that they were asked. The children enjoyed their time on the beach building sandcastles and searching for pebbles too! The rain did pour but it didn't dampen the children's spirits. We are so proud of them all. Thank you to all of the Parent and Carer volunteers for your time and support. We would also like to take this opportunity to say thank you to the many Parents and Carers who offered their support with the day.
