Year 2 have had some very egg-citing guests in their classrooms for the last week. Last Monday, some duck eggs were delivered to school for the children to observe as part of their Science learning. By Wednesday, the eggs had hatched and there were eight fluffy ducklings sat in the incubators ready and waiting for some cuddles. The children thoroughly enjoyed caring for the ducklings and even got to help them swim for the first time. Take a look at some photographs below.

Year 2 had an amazing day celebrating World Book Day 2024. The children arrived dressed as characters from their favourite books and enjoyed showing their costumes in assembly. The children enjoyed reading the book 'Look Up!' by  Nathan Bryon and completed a draw-a-long session with the illustrator, Dapo Adeola. They sketched the character 'Luna' from the story. They looked incredible! Year 2 also learnt about the famous female astronaut, Mae Jemison. The children considered what they would take with them if they travelled to space. Take a look at some of the fantastic costumes and work produced on the day.

Before the half term break, Year 2 enjoyed writing their own set of instructions about how to create a Jack-O-Lantern. They started by identifying imperative verbs before applying these into sentences. The children then had first-hand experience of carving a pumpkin. Take a look at some photos from the week.

How spooktacular their Jack-O-Lanterns were!

This week, we have been planting seeds as part of our investigation about what a seed needs to be able to grow into a strong, healthy plant. The children used their knowledge to make predictions.
'I think the pot without water won't germinate.' - Lyla
'I think the pot without sunlight will grow a little bit but the leaves will be yellow.' - Junior
We look forward to collecting the results to see if our predictions are correct.

Animal Workshop

Year Two have had a very exciting day today. They welcomed Jack and Eleanor from Zoolab and their collection of animals! The children enjoyed an interactive workshop where they found out many facts about a range of animals and their habitats. The children even got to handle some of them! The children were very brave and challenged themselves to hold or stroke them.
For part of the day, the children enjoyed painting different animals using the painting technique, 'Pointillism'. We're sure you will agree they did a fantastic job. Be sure to ask your child about the animal they enjoyed seeing the most.

Year Two had a fabulous day yesterday celebrating World Book Day. Their learning was based around the book, 'Fantastically Great Women who Changed the World'. The children learnt many facts about Frida Kahlo, Sacagawea, Amelia Earhart and Emmeline Pankhurst. They completed some incredible factual writing about these amazing women before drawing pictures of them.
We were blown away with the costumes that the children came in. Take a look at the photographs to spot many different book characters.
