The children were buzzing with excitement from the moment they set off, and the day turned out to be packed with learning, fun and adventure.
 
One of the highlights of the day was visiting Lotherton House, where the children had the special opportunity to meet none other than Florence Nightingale herself! Florence shared fascinating stories about her life and the incredible work she did caring for soldiers during the Crimean War. The children loved helping her pack her suitcase, choosing the essential items she would need for her journey to Crimea.
 
After their time with Florence, the class explored Wildlife World, where they discovered an array of exotic birds and other animals. From colourful parrots to curious mammals, there was so much to see and talk about. It was wonderful to see the children’s enthusiasm as they learned about different species and their habitats.
 
Of course, no school trip would be complete without some time to relax and have fun together. The children enjoyed a lovely picnic lunch and then burned off some energy in the play area, where laughter and smiles were in abundance.
 
Overall, it was a truly memorable day. The children returned to school full of stories to share and new knowledge to build upon in their lessons. A big thank you to everyone who helped make the trip possible – and well done to Year 2 for representing our school so beautifully!

The morning was packed with exciting sporting activities that gave everyone a chance to get moving, have fun, and show off their skills. From balancing to jumping and everything in between, the children gave it their all and showed great teamwork and effort.
In the afternoon, the excitement continued with the races! The crowd cheered as children competed in the sprint, the egg and spoon race and the always-popular potato race. There were lots of smiles, a few wobbly spoons, and some impressively fast runners!
We were so proud of the way all the children took part—they were great sports, encouraged one another and worked hard throughout the day. Well done to everyone who joined in and made it such a memorable event!

As part of their weekly Book Talk sessions, the children had the chance to choose a book and find the perfect comfy spot to enjoy their reading time.
Some children nestled into the snug reading corner, surrounded by books and cushions, while others got creative—curling up under tables, making little reading dens, and using cushions to get extra comfortable. It was wonderful to see everyone so engaged in their books, fully immersed in different stories and adventures.
These cosy reading sessions have helped the children develop a love for books while encouraging thoughtful discussions about their chosen stories. It’s amazing to see their enthusiasm grow each week!

This exciting project gave the children the chance to develop their design and technology skills while having lots of fun along the way.
To build their toys, the children used MDF, which they carefully cut using a junior hacksaw. They showed great concentration and care while sawing, making sure to follow their designs accurately. Once their pieces were cut, they used sandpaper to smooth out any rough edges, ensuring their toys were safe to handle.
Next, the children drilled holes into their MDF pieces to fit the axles and wheels. This step required precision and patience, and they did an amazing job working safely and sensibly with the tools. Once everything was assembled, they had a fantastic time testing their moving toys and watching them roll!
It was wonderful to see the children’s creativity and determination throughout the project. They should be incredibly proud of their hard work and the brilliant moving toys they created. Well done, Year 2!

During their reading sessions, the children used iPads to play a variety of interactive games that helped them learn and remember tricky words from the book.
They enjoyed matching words to their meanings, testing their memory with flashcards, and competing in exciting vocabulary challenges. The interactive nature of Quizlet made learning engaging and fun, and it was wonderful to see the children working together to develop their understanding of the story’s language.

Each week, the children explored different ways to move and balance, building their confidence and skills along the way.
One of the highlights was using the apparatus. The children loved climbing, jumping, and balancing on the equipment, testing their strength and coordination. It was wonderful to see them challenge themselves and support each other as they tackled different movements.
Throughout the term, Year 2 focused on three key gymnastics skills: curling, arching, and stretching. They experimented with curling their bodies into small shapes, arching their backs like gymnasts in action, and stretching their arms and legs to create long, elegant lines. These movements helped improve their flexibility and control, and they had so much fun trying out new poses and sequences!
It was fantastic to see the enthusiasm and determination of every child. Whether they were balancing on a beam, stretching into a star shape, or arching their backs like bridges, they gave it their all and showed great progress.

Music filled the hall as they sang their hearts out, captivating the audience with their energy and passion. Their performances reflected hard work, teamwork and growing confidence.
