World Book Day

​Last week, it was World Book Day and Wellgate celebrated the day in style.

Throughout the day, children had fun dressing as their favourite book characters (or word) , showed off their costumes in assemblies and completed exciting learning about different books and had some fantastic book talk! Take a look!

This week, practitioners from Compass Be -Barnsley's Mental Health Support Team- came into school to work with the Year 6 pupils. The session focused upon what stress is, how to manage stress (particularly around SATs and transition to secondary school), exploring coping strategies, breathing techniques and positive thinking.

Robinwood 2023

Robinwood is a residential centre for adventurous activities which our Y6 children  visit each year.  Below are photos from each group that went in January.
Each group enjoyed 14 separate activities over their 3 days.
  • Traditional: archery, climbing, caving and canoeing
  • Puzzle/Escape rooms: Quest, Dungeon and Piranha Pool
  • Teamwork: Nightline, Crate challenge and Team challenge
  • Ropes/Harness: High ropes, Trapeze, Zipwire and Giant Swing

Monday afternoon, Year 6 had a great time at their Christmas party. They danced, played games and ate some delicious party food. The children thoroughly enjoyed the party and their gifts sent by Santa

Football Success

A huge well done and congratulations to Lexi in Year 6.
Lexi was presented with the coveted school district association tie in recognition for her tremendous achievement in making the town's football team.
Lexi will be wearing her tie when representing our school district against others nationally.
Previous holders of the tie are England and Manchester City Footballer John Stones and England Lioness Beth England!

Reading Together - Year 6 and Year 2

We love reading at Wellgate and we want to read and share books at all times and with everyone. Last week, Year 6 children were given the opportunity to share their expertise in reading as well as their love of reading with children in Year 2. This included sharing stories together as well as working together to complete surveys about the children's reading preferences and talk about books and authors they love. Have a look at the experience below. The Year 6 are looking forward to working with Year 1 next.
