Year 5 AND 6 Shine in Camelot’s Craziest Quest! What an incredible performance! We couldn’t be prouder of our amazing Year 5 children who brought Camelot’s Craziest Quest to life with energy, humour, and fantastic teamwork. This was truly a show to remember.

Over the past few weeks, the children have worked tirelessly--learning their lines, rehearsing songs, perfecting their actions, and practising scene after scene. Their hard work and dedication were clear for everyone to see on the stage.
But what made this production extra special was that the children didn’t just perform – they took charge behind the scenes too! From managing the lights and sound to organising props and set changes, they ran the show with real confidence and maturity. It was a brilliant example of teamwork and responsibility.

The performances were full of laughs, fun, and fantastic singing, with the whole audience swept up in the adventure. There were plenty of unforgettable moments, from talking dragons and daring princesses to knights turned into chickens and the magical chaos of Merlin’s spells.
The hall was filled with applause, smiles, and lots of giggles as the children sang, danced, and acted their hearts out.

We are so proud of every single child who took part, whether they were on stage or working behind the scenes. You showed determination, creativity, and incredible team spirit. Well done Year 5 and 6—you really made Camelot come alive!

Computing in Year 6: Website design

20/12/2024

During this half term, Year 6 have been working on designing and making their own websites in Computing.

They needed to understand the rules around copyright and how to source  images which had 'Creative Commons License' giving them permission to use the pictures.

They considered the navigation paths of their websites and how they would link from their title page to the other pages that make up their websites.

The children were allowed to choose a topic that interested them and this has meant that they have created a range of websites from one about animals to others about hobbies, desserts and counties.

They worked hard on their designs to ensure they were eye-catching with some even adding picture carousels and maps.

Here are a few for you to take a look at. We are sure you will agree that they have done an amazing job.

Year 6 took part in Anti-Bullying workshops which included fantastic discussions about respecting others, showing empathy to peers and thinking about the words we use and how they can affect the people around us!

All students created a simple act of kindness to complete within their peer groups this week as park of #AntiBullyingWeek2024

Recently, the brilliant children of 6KEST wowed their parents and carers with their learning, singing and knowledge during their class assembly . Even though they had only been in Year 6 for 7 weeks, they had completed a phenomenal amount of work and learnt so much!
What an incredibly arty class! Just look at these sketches -inspired by Monet's fascination with light- which show refraction (this was linked to our science learning). They have also been learning to recite poetry and as a class, they shared 'The Wellgate Way.' The children sang beautifully during the assembly and even added actions to their performances.

Year 6 had an amazing day at Crucial Crew learning how to be safe through a variety of different scenarios. All the children were impeccably behaved and were an absolute credit to the school and their families.
Bus Transport
The children learnt how to safely catch a bus, how they should behave on the bus and what they need to be able to travel by bus. Please scan the QR code if you would like to obtain a bus pass for your child.
Hate and Knife Crime
The children learnt about what hate and knife crime both are and the impact that they can have on others.
County Lines
The children really enjoyed this session and were quite shocked by some of the facts that were shared. They were taught what signs to look for so that they could protect their peers as well as themselves.
Water Safety
The children learnt how to be safe around open water, the dangers of open water and how to help someone who may have fallen in.
Road Safety
The children learnt how to cross the road safely, the stopping distances of cars and how to use a Puffin Crossing correctly.
Fire Safety
Children learnt about the repercussions of hoax calls and about the consequences of anti-social behaviour.
The Courtroom
The children were given the opportunity to experience what it would be like if they were ever in a court room. They learnt about the full process and what the consequences of their actions could be.
Fire in the home
The children learnt about smoke alarms and what to do if they were ever in the unfortunate position of being in a house fire.

Last week, the amazing children of 6BLJW wowed their parents and carers with their class assembly. Even though they've only been in Year 6 for 7 weeks, they have completed a phenomenal amount of work and have learnt so much!
They are clearly an incredibly arty class - just look at these sketches which show refraction (this was linked to our science learning).
The children have been focusing their learning on The Impressionist Movement, so they looked at Claude Monet's work for inspiration.

They have also been learning to recite poetry. As a class, they shared 'The Wellgate Way' and then a small group read, 'A Tiger in the Zoo.'
The children sang beautifully during the assembly and even added actions to their performances.
Thank you to the great audience who were a fantastic support.

Last week, our incredible Year 5 and 6 children put on their end of year production, 'Let the Games Begin'. They all worked so hard to learn all of their lines, songs and dance moves making it a huge success. Some of them even took on a backstage role ensuring that the props, lightening and music ran seamlessly. Well done to everyone that took part on or off stage. We are so proud of you all.

World Book Day

Year 6 had a fabulous day centred all around our love of reading and vocabulary. We enjoyed an online author workshop, a very competitive reading quiz, and we enjoyed being illustrators this afternoon making outstanding artwork based on 'The Day the Crayons Quit.' The children also made reading stars; why not ask your child about the target they have set themselves?

We were blown away by the effort everyone put in with their outfits! We genuinely thought we had a 'gangster granny' roaming the classroom in 6BC this morning. Thank you so much to parents and carers for taking the time to help create such great costumes.

We also received some really exciting news this week about a writing competition that Year 6 have been involved in across our Trust. The competition is being judged by a local author, Katie Booth, and it was great to see so many of our children being chosen as finalists. There are certainly some budding authors at Wellgate who should be very proud of their achievements.
