4BC/JW Singing at Chapel View Care Home

15/12/2022

This afternoon, 4BC/JW brought some festive cheer to the residents and staff at Chapel View Care Home. The children sang beautifully - so much so that there were happy tears shed by some of the residents. Mr Cronin did a fantastic job as always of accompanying the children with his great guitar playing skills. The children thoroughly enjoyed themselves and were rewarded with some tasty and superbly decorated biscuits which were provided by the amazing kitchen staff.

Year 4 Trip to Murton Park

12/10/2022

Year 4 had an amazing day at Murton Park.
We started the day by getting dressed up as Romans and practising how to hold our spears and shields correctly.
Then, Flavia took us on a tour around the site. Many children were shocked to hear that the Romans used a wooden stick with a sponge on to wipe their bums!
The children were given the opportunity to practise fighting with weapons which they all really enjoyed.
They also signed a contract to say that they would be a Roman for the next 25 years and made a clay oil lamp.
The children really enjoyed finding out about different weapons.
Finally, the Romans (children) chased a Celt away from the fort.
Thank you so much to all the children who were an absolute credit to their parents/carers and the school. We would also like to take the opportunity to thank all the adults who came with us and made it possible.

A massive well done to all the pupils who took part in the WALK cross country festival at Barnsley College today. In rain, wind and sunshine, every pupil gave 100% to complete the course in the quickest time possible.

Special mentions to Euan who won the Year 4 boys race and Jasmyn who came 3rd in the Year 4 girls race.

Year 4 Viking Day

Morning Session - Meeting Viking Waidson

All the adults were incredibly impressed with the outfits that the children wore, the hairstyles that many parents and carers had created and the wonderful boats, shields and helmets that the children had made. Take a look for yourselves.
In the morning, the Year 4 children were incredibly lucky to meet Viking Waidson who was extremely knowledgeable and had lots of amazing artefacts and other interesting things to show us.
Before playtime, Viking Waidson showed us how the Vikings would make fire - it was incredibly exciting but also quite dangerous (we know that we shouldn't try any of the things at home that he showed us today).
After playtime, Viking Waidson told us about slaves and how they were treated. He showed us how people would defend themselves against Vikings and how they would let others know that Vikings were on the attack.

The afternoon - Longboat making

In the afternoon, we all made our own longboats with our own unique shields. We worked incredibly hard on these and they were quite tricky at times.

Viking ring

One of our very kind nannans let their grandson bring in an example of a Viking ring which was really interesting to look at.

The whole of the LKS2 Phase had a fantastic time at their Sports Day.
We started off the morning by participating in dodgeball, handball, kickball and cricket. The children were very excited as it was their first Sports Day in a while.
In the afternoon, the children enjoyed participating in a variety of races including sprints, potato and the egg and spoon race.
All the children and staff had a really fantastic day. Thank you so much to all the parents and carers who came and spectated in the afternoon - we really appreciate it.
