Year 3 had an exciting and enriching experience during their Hinduism workshop on Thursday 6th February. The workshop provided the children with a hands-on approach to learning, making it an unforgettable day. Listening to Hindu StoriesThe children were captivated by traditional Hindu stories, learning about important figures and teachings from Hinduism. Through engaging storytelling, they discovered the values and morals that these ancient tales convey. Exploring Hindu ArtefactsThe workshop offered a wonderful opportunity for the children to examine a range of Hindu artefacts. From beautifully crafted statues of deities to intricately designed lamps and prayer items, they gained a deeper understanding of Hindu worship and traditions. Learning a Traditional DanceOne of the highlights of the workshop was learning a traditional Hindu dance. The children embraced the rhythmic movements and expressive gestures, enjoying the chance to immerse themselves in the cultural heritage of India. Balloon Games GaloreThe party kicked off with a series of balloon games that had the children bubbling with excitement. From classic balloon relays to "keep it in the air" challenges, the room was alive with bursts of energy and squeals of delight. Musical Statues and Musical BumpsNext up was a round of musical games that tested everyone’s agility and focus. Musical Statues had the students freezing in hilarious poses whenever the music stopped, showcasing some truly creative interpretations of “statue”! Musical Bumps followed, where quick reactions were key as the children hurried to sit down as the tunes paused. These games brought out the competitive spirit in the best possible way, with plenty of laughter echoing through the room. Strike a Pose at the Photo BoothNo Christmas party is complete without a photo booth, and Year 3’s did not disappoint! Equipped with festive props like Santa hats and reindeer antlers, the booth became a hotspot for capturing memories. The children’s creativity shone as they struck playful poses, making the photo booth a highlight of the event. The Year 3 Christmas party was a resounding success, bringing the joy of the season to life. It has been hard work discovering how bodies are structured, what bones and muscles do and which foods help to help us grow and stay healthy. Why not ask your child what their favourite moment from this topic has been?
The children of Year 3 have been busy developing their oracy skills in 'classroom court' in an exciting turn of events. This term, we have explored a range of texts, including the hilarious 'Goldilocks on CCTV'. The children had great fun defending and prosecuting 'Goldi' in our reading sessions.
In Year 3, we have explored and learned about our local mining history, the industrial revolution and the mining strike of 1984. Our children have investigated key events that linked to the strike and have shown great empathy and interest in the impact these events have had in Barnsley.
Year 3 recently learnt first hand what it means to be on strike on 'The Day the Year 3 Chairs Quit'. A day in which the children were completely shocked to find out that their chairs had gone on strike. See the photos below of the absolutely outstanding letters of negotiation your amazing children have written to their chairs to convince them to return. An awesome mix of persuasive devices, emotionally evocative language and well thought out arguments. Year 3 are incredibly proud of their persuasive writing - and their teachers are too. It is superb. Year 3 had the best time celebrating World Book Day 2024. The children arrived bright and early at school eager to read, dressed as characters from their favourite books or representing a cool and interesting word. We had an amazing day, reading new stories, writing thoughts and speeches for new characters and sharing our reading wishes and ambitions for the future. We even met the author of the 'InvestiGators' John Patrick Green who showed the children how to illustrate his famous book characters; Brash and Mango. What super Scientists we have in Year 3! This year, our children have used lots of experimenting and exploring opportunities to find out all about forces. The children explored contact forces such as friction in a range of experiments. The also found out about non contact forces like magnetism as the tested different magnetic objects and materials. Last half term the children of Year 3 shared their wonderful learning in an exciting action packed class assembly. The children loved sharing all of the exciting experiences, learning and work they have undertaken. It was super to learn about their thoughts on the Stone Age, to see their creations of Art work and to have the children teach everyone some marvelous Maths. What an outstanding assembly it was!
