As part of their Design Technology learning, Year 1 children recently embarked on an exciting project: creating their very own felt hand puppets! This hands-on activity allowed them to explore their creativity, refine their skills and learn the basics of sewing—all while having lots of fun! First, the children were tasked with designing their puppets. They carefully planned out their ideas, choosing colours and features that would make their puppets unique. Once their designs were ready, it was time to begin the sewing process. At first, the sewing proved to be a bit tricky, as many of the children had never sewn before. But with determination and patience, they refined their sewing techniques. They practiced stitching, threading needles and attaching felt pieces together, all while supporting and encouraging one another. Through hard work and persistence, the children successfully created their hand puppets! Each one was different, with its own special personality. From farm animals to domestic pets, the children’s designs truly came to life in the form of their puppets. This project was a wonderful opportunity for the children to develop both their practical skills and their creativity. It was amazing to see them so proud of the finished results—each puppet a reflection of their effort and imagination. Well done, Year 1! You’ve shown incredible perseverance and creativity in making your hand puppets. We can’t wait to see all the stories you’ll create with them! 🎭✨
