Artist Study: Henri Matisse

Year 1 have been diving into the world of art with their exciting artist study on Henri Matisse! They have thoroughly enjoyed learning about his unique style and exploring his famous collage technique, which he called "painting with scissors."
Did you know?

• Henri Matisse was born in France in 1869.
  
• He originally studied law before discovering his passion for art.
  
• Later in life, he turned to collage as a way to create beautiful, bold artworks using cut-out shapes.
  

The children looked closely at Matisse’s collage work, studying his use of vibrant colours and bold shapes. Inspired by his techniques, they then used their knowledge to create their own stunning collages of animals. It was wonderful to see their creativity shine as they carefully cut and arranged different shapes to bring their artwork to life.
