ABOUT WELLGATE PRIMARY SCHOOL

Wellgate Primary School Wellgate Primary School is situated in Mapplewell near Barnsley in South Yorkshire. We are a relatively new school that opened in September 1999. A new junior department was added to the existing Wellgate Infant School.

The main entrance is situated off George Street although there is pedestrian access to the school from Wellgate.

Most pupils live close to the school but some come from further afield. The school is larger than an average primary school with around 400 children attending.

You can view the
School Prospectus via the Download area.
You can find information about Parental policies and children's sickness via School policies.

We have 17 teachers plus a head teacher, and 17 teaching assistants. Each class has its own dinner lady and we have some extra dinner ladies who look after individual children.

Class 2The six infant class bases, each with their own or shared carpeted quiet bay, are paired so that individual or group activities can expand into a quarry tiled practical area. Each class base has its own entrance with toilets and cloakroom facilities and is linked to the central library/computer suite. A conservatory joins both reception classes and provides ample space for play.

The junior block has eight classrooms. Each spacious classroom has its own wet area for creative activities and its own entrance with toilets and cloakroom facilities.

The school has a recently refurbished library and computer suite, which is a superb resource for children and staff.

The school also has two multi-purpose halls, which are fully equipped for Physical Education, with wall bars, climbing frames and ropes.

Dining takes place in both halls, service being by means of heated trolleys from the kitchen adjoining the central area.

Outside there are large tarmac playgrounds and the rest of the spacious area is grassed.

Our school motto is that we are all gifted and talented in many different ways.
