At Wellgate School we aim to help the children to become confident speakers, readers and writers, by fostering an interest in and a love of books.
 We provide an environment rich in experiences and resources that will help to develop enjoyment and self-esteem in written and spoken language.
We help children to develop a bank of skills for self-expression and personal progression in all areas of social interaction and communication.
We implement the National Curriculum for English whilst retaining an awareness of the value of individual progress and individual development needs.
Our English policy provides opportunities to promote pupils’ spiritual, moral, social and cultural development. It also provides opportunities for pupils to develop the key skills of communication, ICT, working with others and improving their own learning and performance through the process of redrafting, writing and reflecting on what has been spoken, performed, read or written through group work and drama.
 It is the policy of Wellgate Primary School to meet the needs of every child, and staff teach the knowledge, skills and understanding in ways that best suit their children’s abilities.
