Welcome to Wellgate

The children, staff, parents and Governors welcome you to our school.

At Wellgate every child matters and we believe that each one is entitled to the best education. We want each child to be safe, be healthy, enjoy and achieve, achieve economic wellbeing and make a positive contribution. Through teaching children to make the right choices, we strive to develop caring, thoughtful citizens of tomorrow. The school ethos is one of mutual respect for everyone regardless of gender, race, culture or beliefs.

We aim to develop natural curiosity, imagination and creativity working individually and in teams.

We hope that this website will give you a flavour of the rich and varied life your child will enjoy, but the best way to see our school in action is to come and visit us.

Extra Curricular

Children are offered a wide range of opportunities, both within the timetable and as extra curricular activities.

Children are able to have fun and further their interests at a variety of after school clubs. There are opportunities for your child to join activities such as the school choir, samba band, gardening club, French club, netball, football, rounders, card making, ultimate frisbee and hockey. Our children are also given the opportunity to play the violin, guitar, keyboard, cornet and flute.

Working Together

Education is a partnership between home and school. We look forward to working with you to ensure your child’s success and happiness.

Opportunities are offered for adult learning, and parent and child workshops.

Regular parents evenings are held and written reports distributed on a yearly basis. Termly targets are also set for your child so that you can see and understand the next important steps in their learning.

The Learning Environment

Our school learning environment is very bright and attractive. We believe that our children should be surrounded by excellent learning resources and fantastic displays of their work. We want the learning environment to stimulate curiosity and enable the child to feel safe.

Learning through play is very important to us, so you will see role play areas and small world play.

We are proud of our ICT facilities. The suite houses 18 computers and the classrooms are also well stocked. Our children are taught to use computers from the Foundation Stage onwards. Proactive learning is stimulated by the use of interactive whiteboards.

The extensive outdoor area is made up of a football court, two large playgrounds and a large field. Our ‘wild’ environment area provides opportunities to extend and further children’s interest and enthusiasm in learning.

Who to contact

If you have any problems, issues or comments, please follow the contact procedure below so that we can deal with the matter as quickly and effectively as possible.

If your issue is confidential, please see the class teacher at the end of the day. If it is of a very urgent nature see the class teacher before school, but please be mindful that the teacher has responsibility for the whole class from 8.50am.

If you wish to follow up any issue after it has been taken to the class teacher, contact Mrs Cole in KS1 or Miss Mitchell in KS2. If at that point you are unhappy about the outcome please contact the head; Mrs Kirkman. Our Parent support Advisor, Mr Pollard is also available at most times.
